Special Programs
In addition to the core mission of raising funds for scholarships and school endowments, BLOCS engages in other programs for the benefit of the schools.
Technology
BLOCS has been invited to participate in “e-cycling” programs placing gently used computers and computer technology in school classrooms. Under the e-cycling program, schools receive computers, printers and smart boards from companies that are upgrading or replacing current systems. These computers typically replace equipment that is more than 5 years old. Programs like these help schools bridge the digital divide, particularly in poor areas.
Heating Oil
BLOCS works with a major heating oil provider in the region to pass along discounts to schools to help control the escalating cost of heating school buildings. BLOCS will continue to work with schools to find programs to reduce these costs, including programs for weatherizing buildings to improve efficiency.
Marketing
BLOCS regularly brings schools together to share successful marketing practices that have increased enrollment. A 2008 pilot program providing grants to schools to support these marketing efforts has been expanded to include more than a dozen schools. In addition to marketing funds, a small flexible Financial Aid grant has been provided to principals to help grow school enrollment.
BLOCS continues to pursue programs that enhance and support the mission of the schools. Companies or individuals interested in discussing opportunities may contact the BLOCS office at 484-684-1212.
