Meet Elaine McDowell. After celebrating her “retirement” from 45 years in teaching and administration in Catholic education, Elaine tells us the story of how she came into her profession, the obstacles she overcame raising her own family, and how she has witnessed the transformational impact BLOCS donors have had on the students and families with whom she has been blessed to build relationships over the course of her career. It’s #ThankfulThursday! We recently caught up with the Thomas family and we’re thrilled to hear how Catholic education and Ss. John Neumann and Maria Goretti High School have played such a transformational role in providing pathways to success for student-athletes like Kevin and Destinee. We wish Kevin continued blessings as he pursues his dream to play Division I football. His family proudly reports he is a 4-star Football recruit and Track & Field All-American. Our donors continue to help student-athletes like Kevin chase their dreams on the field and in the classroom. Congratulations! #BuiltByBLOCS

PAY IT FORWARD FRIDAY –> This is just one example of many who have been on the receiving end of BLOCS tuition aid, only to later #payitforward by making a donation after their children have graduated. This faith-filled giving underscores how God calls us to be generous, and how, in turn, He rewards our faith by ensuring we have our financial needs met. We are so grateful for all of donors who continue to make Catholic education possible. #BuiltByBLOCS
Earlier this week we caught up with BLOCS Scholarship recipients Rachel, a Senior on the softball team, and Michaelann, a Junior field hockey player, at the Bonner Prendie Donor Reception. Both reflect on their decision to attend Bonner Prendie as an easy one. “Everyone says it, we’re like a family,” remarks Rachel, whose mother is Prendie alumna. Michaelann adds that she feels an immediate sense of belonging, with not only her Mom and family members who attended Bonner Prendie, but with the entire BP alumni community. When Michaelann’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, “someone wrote my Mom’s name on the prayer board at school…I never even thought to do that…it was so overwhelming having people we didn’t even know pray for us.” Having chosen a Catholic education after attending public school through 8th grade, she adds how being a part of the Prendie community has built her faith in ways she previously didn’t know were possible: “I genuinely think the power of prayer got us through.” Rachel, who plans to attend West Chester University in the fall, shares a similar story as her classmate. Her mother was also diagnosed with brain cancer in 2006 and relapsed in ’14. Rachel cites life-changing experiences like Bonner Prendie’s annual retreat, the same one her Mom got to participate in years ago, as enriching her spiritually and helping her to develop strong friendships with students in every grade. The girls proudly show off their class rings, noting it’s yet another visible reminder and signal to others in the community who light up when they see another Prendie student, that they are a part of a family for life. As we head into Mother’s Day weekend, we’d like to celebrate our hard-working, genuine, kind and gratitude-filled BLOCS scholarship recipients, Rachel & Michaelann, and dedicate this #thankyou post to the Mothers who helped to raise them. We wish you and your whole families continued blessings, restored health and love. #BuiltByBLOCS
