Approved Budget Provides Significant Increase to Pennsylvania Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program

The General Assembly and Governor Wolf approved a budget which addresses an increased need for statewide educational alternatives for students and their families via an expansion of Pennsylvania’s tax credit programs.

The Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC), Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC), Pre-K and similar Educational Improvement programs received a historic increase of $125 million.

Based on statewide data, an additional 31,000 students across PA will now be able to attend a school of their choice as a result of this new funding.

“We are grateful to the General Assembly and Governor Wolf for recognizing the need to provide educational choices to students and families throughout Pennsylvania. Our partner schools provide a high quality, successful, values and faith-based education,” remarks Dave Rowan, BLOCS Chief Executive Officer.

Rowan adds, “As the leading scholarship organization in the state, we recognize a consistent and growing investment in education is critical both to the Philadelphia area’s short and long-term success.”

Because of the generosity of BLOCS’ donors, more than 16,000 students received scholarship assistance during the last school year. This new program funding will allow for more donors to participate in the tax credit program, thereby providing greater educational opportunities for students and families, and significantly growing the program’s impact.
