BLOCS Announces 99% Tax Credit Refund for PA's Economically Disadvantaged Schools Program

PHILADELPHIA (August 26, 2024)BLOCS (Business Leadership Organized for Catholic Schools), the largest scholarship organization in Pa., for K-12 students, announced today that the State of Pennsylvania increased its Economically Disadvantaged School Program (EDS) tax credit from 90% to 99%.

This change impacts 130 schools statewide. BLOCS is the sole administrator for the EDS Program, which has no cap for corporate donors and a total budget of $60 million, providing increased incentives for donors to support this vital initiative.

“I am thrilled to announce this significant increase in the EDS program,” said Matt McFillin, BLOCS Board Chairman. “This will have a profound impact on the educational landscape. By raising the tax credit to nearly 100%, businesses participating in the EDS Program are empowered to make an even greater difference in the lives of students in need. BLOCS remains committed to its mission of providing access to high-quality education and transforming the futures of countless students. This change underscores the importance of investing in our youth, ensuring a brighter tomorrow for all."

Businesses or individuals who are subject to PA taxes, are eligible for a tax credit equivalent to 99% of their contribution to all participating EDS schools through BLOCS.

The EDS Program was established to help students in underperforming school districts who attend schools where more than half of the student body qualifies for Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC). EITC helps low-to-moderate income students access high-quality schools of their choice.
